WORLD FOOD SAFETY DAY
Updated: Aug 18, 2021
Food that is Safe is the Food we All must Consume.
World Food Safety Day is observed according to the proclamation by the United Nations General Assembly in 2018 that every 7th June would be WFSD to draw global attention to the contamination of food and water. The theme for this year is ‘Safe Food Today for a Healthy Tomorrow’ - it stresses that the production and consumption of safe food have immediate and long-term benefits for people, the planet, and the economy.
79 After Dark echoes this thought - food safety is the most important factor at any given point of operation and should be the focus of any business that deals in the production, selling, handling and preparation of food. The purpose of a restaurant is to serve food that is not just delicious but safe.
As a restaurant in Singapore, 79 After Dark practises high standards of food safety according to the rules set by the national authority for food safety in Singapore (SFA), is always following WHO's 'Five keys to safer food' and has upheld other international food safety standards in its two years of service. Due to the pandemic, there is a need for heightened safety in all industries across the globe. As recognition, 79AD exercises much more caution and sanitization in all its operations than ever before, adopting these measures as habits to provide a safer experience to its guests and staff.
Using anti-bacterial cleaners to disinfect all surfaces regularly, providing adequate handwashing facilities that are separated from food preparation areas with soap & running water, thorough sanitization and sterilization of kitchen equipment and dishes, mopping floors with disinfectant, thorough washing of produce with clean water, using sterilised packaging, etc. are some of the mandatory precautions that the restaurant undertakes on the daily.
Good food hygiene ensures that food prepared for customers is safe to eat. High standards of food safety, the kind that is followed at 79AD, prevent harmful microorganisms that can cause serious illness from contaminating food, prevents cross-contamination, enables businesses to comply with the law and helps prevent, detect, & manage foodborne risks. According to WHO, "If it is not safe, it is not food. Only when food is safe will it meet dietary needs and help ensure that everyone can live an active and healthy life." This is a strong statement that 79 After Dark agrees and complies with.
When it comes to food safety and hygiene, guests can enjoy delicious meals while being completely assured of them being prepared and packaged safely from 79 After Dark. Warm wishes from the team on this World Food Safety Day.
